DSEK Takes Major Action Against Leading Private School in Srinagar, Issues Fresh Order

The Directorate of School Education Kashmir has taken a decisive step in addressing alleged fee irregularities at Doon School Srinagar. In a notice issued to the institution, the directorate highlighted concerns over the imposition of developmental charges during the admission process, purportedly in contravention of the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009.

The notice underscored Section 13 of the RTE Act, which explicitly prohibits the collection of any form of capitation fee at the time of admission.

Capitation fee, as defined, encompasses any additional payment, donation, or contribution beyond the approved school fees. The directorate emphasized that such charges run afoul of the legislation’s provisions.

This action comes following the directorate’s prior issuance of circular instructions regarding fee regulations, stressing the importance of adherence to the RTE Act and associated directives. Despite these guidelines, the alleged violations by Doon School Srinagar have prompted official intervention.

The notice, signed by Lyo2124, Director of School Education Kashmir, has given Doon School Srinagar a three-day window to provide clarification regarding the reported fee irregularities.

Failure to address these concerns satisfactorily may result in punitive measures, including fines and potential derecognition of the institution.

Furthermore, the notice has been disseminated to various governmental bodies for their awareness and enforcement of the circular instructions issued by the directorate.

This collaborative effort aims to uphold educational standards and safeguard the rights of students within the region.
